Video and Audio Piracy

With the growth of the Internet, piracy has be-come an escalating concern among the entertainment and software industries. Piracy is defined as the unauthorized reproduction or distribution of copyrighted music, movies, and/or software. Peer-to-peer downloading applications such as BitTorrent, Lime Wire, UseNet, and eDonkey have all contributed to the overall rise in internet piracy. Organizations such as the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) have recognized the threat of piracy to their various industries, and have often pursued both legislation and lawsuits against those who disobey the law by creating and/or sharing their downloaded files.

There are provisions in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act that require Internet
Service Providers to notify its subscribers when a notification of infringement is received. If notified of any copyright infringement we will take the following action(s)

  1. 1st notification will result in a letter sent to the subscriber notifying them that their connection has been identified in downloading copy-righted data
  2. 2nd notification will result in the subscriber being disconnected from SCTelcom’s Internet service
